   The average residential real estate price in West Hartford for July 2008 was $356,150. The real estate market in West Hartford has remained stable and offers areas of well-established neighborhoods as well as complexes of new condomimium homes.    West Hartford's school system has consistently been rated among the highest in the state. West Hartford offers neighborhood elementary schools as well as magnet schools.

   West Hartford has 4 main shopping areas, including: West Farms Mall and Corbins Corner,  West Hartford Center, Blueback Square, and Bishop's Corner.  There is also shopping on Farmington Avenue and Park Road. The newest of these areas is Blueback Square, which houses the state's only Cheesecake Factory and Crate and Barrel Store along with several other shops and restaurants. The new movie Theater at Blueback Square is drawing crowds.

   The restaurants in West Hartford Center draw diners not only from West Hartford but from all of the surrounding communities. The food offerings include mediterranean, fish and seafood, American, Afghan, Thai, Chinese, Italian, Indian and Japanese as well as the favorite local coffee shops.

   There are lovely parks in West Hartford as well as two reservoirs with extensive walking and biking trails. West Hartford has an aquatic center and an indoor ice skating rink.  Golfers enjoy the Buena Vista 9-hole Golf Course as well as the larger Rockledge and Wampanoug Golf Courses. West Hartford is home to Jonathan's Dream Playground, the first Boundless Playground, which is completely accessible to children of all ability levels including those with physical handicaps. 

   The Park Road Playhouse opened several years ago and has attracted theater lovers with its wonderful offering of plays.The West Hartford Art League is very active and holds several exhibits each year.

   West Hartford is known throughout central Connecticut for it's Celebrate! West Hartford festival, which is held every June. Celebrate! West Hartford is a highly attended, annual event that promotes community life. Attracting well over 30,000 people each year, Celebrate! also provides festival attendees with a wide range of family activities – an award winning juried arts & crafts show, great food, entertainment, games, rides, and a certified 5K road race.The event offers local organizations a way to increase community awareness and an opportunity to raise funds for their worthy causes.

   West Hartford Center Farmers' Market is open from May through December in the municipal parking lot located at the corner of Arapahoe Road and LaSalle Road. The regular hours are Tuesday and Saturday, 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM, and Thursdays, 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM. 

   West Hartford's Community Garden plots are available to TOWN RESIDENTS ONLY (proof of residency required) at the following locations: Buena Vista on Cornerstone Drive; Westmoor Park  on Flagg Road; and Wolcott Park on Wolcott Road.

    West Hartford is home to 3 colleges: The University of Hartford, The University of Connecticut and Saint Joseph's College, all of which offer programs for the community at large.
